UPDATE: We have assessed the situation carefully this morning (19th) and have made the decision to open the school today for the afternoon session only. This will allow time for teachers to get in safely and enable us to prepare the school site.

The school gates will open at 12.45pm and registers will be taken in all classes at 1.00pm. Please ensure that children have had their lunch before arriving in school. The school day will end at the usual time. The school office will open from 10.30am. There will be no Breakfast club but after school clubs are expected to take place as usual.

We fully understand that some families will have made contingency arrangements and may not be able to get their children into school just for the afternoon. If this applies please just call in and let us know. As the school will be classified as partial open there will be no penalties arising from this. Please also ensure that you only bring your children in if it is safe to do so depending on your location and circumstances. Due to the unforeseen disruption we will postpone our empowerment day feedback session for parents until a later date. We expect buses home to run as usual but will update families concerned once this is confirmed. Stay safe and wrap up warm.

We are an Early Years specialist school with a Christian ethos which offers a safe, secure, and caring environment within which children aged 2 to 11 years can grow and learn. Bluecoat Church of England Primary School was formed in September 2013 as a result of the amalgamation of the existing C of E Infant and Nursery School and Great Torrington Community Junior School.

Our school is a spiritually vibrant learning community. We believe that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone; we listen to our children and start from an understanding of their needs, views and experiences. Through our teaching we focus on equipping children with the confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to make informed choices about the issues they face in every area of their lives. We create a learning environment in which they can safely challenge their limitations and explore the opportunities the world has to offer. We provide opportunities which extend their experience of the world and raise their aspirations. We value childhood whilst promoting a lifelong love of learning. This is done through recognition and celebration of the new things we learn together every day. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences help children and adults lead happy and rewarding lives.

Partnership Working

Our school holds Early Years Teaching Centre status and actively supports the development of high quality Early Years provision within our local area. We are the lead school for the Torridge Primary Support Partnership, working proactively and collaboratively to create a practical and sustainable approach to meeting the diverse needs of children and families in the partnership area. We are a partner school for Devon Primary SCITT, helping to train high quality teachers as well as being involved in the development and delivery of the new Early Years SCITT programme.

Parents and carers are always welcome in our school. We actively seek your involvement and want to work with you, in partnership, to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for your children.
