Bluecoat C of E Primary School in Great Torrington, North Devon, is an Early Years specialist school with a Christian ethos which caters for the education of over 500 pupils from 2 to 11 years.  The school gained Early Years Teaching Centre status as an Infant and Nursery School in September 2011, and moved into management partnership with the adjacent Junior School the following year.  The lower school is housed in an eco-building opened in September 2005. It is a light, welcoming environment for learning and teaching. Our school is a happy learning community, which offers a safe, secure, and caring environment within which young children can grow and learn.

The school has a holistic approach that acknowledges the need for children to be healthy, safe, to enjoy their achievements, to feel able to contribute and to be secure. Through an approach that nurtures the development of the whole child we hope to enable children to achieve their full potential and raise standards across the curriculum.

An effective local authority supports our school community, which consists of children, parents, governors and all school staff. The school has strong links with the local community and other agencies working for children and families. We work in partnership to meet the needs of and support the aspirations of families living in Great Torrington and the surrounding areas.

Also on site is a bright and welcoming cafe. See ‘The Coffee Pod’ for more details.

I hope that as you navigate through this site you will get a picture of our exciting school which will be both helpful and informative.
