The Bluecoat Nest

Opening September 2015

Following a decisioNest Logo Finaln by the Governors of Bluecoat C of E Primary School to expand the school age range, families with two year olds in the Great Torrington area will soon have the option of sending them to their local primary school from the term after their 2nd birthday.

In September 2015, Kate Tucker, Head of the Bluecoat Early Years Teaching Centre, will oversee the opening of ‘The Bluecoat Nest’ which will be located in what was previously the Children’s Centre building.  Provision for two year olds will be linked to the school nursery and delivered by highly skilled Early Years practitioners and qualified teaching staff. In addition, ‘The Nest’ will also offer a range of sessions for parents, carers and their children of pre-school age including a Maths Café, Reading Café, and Play and Learn sessions.

Torridge Children’s Centre Services

Action for Children will continue to run Children’s Centre services from the Beech Room on the Bluecoat site.  Angela Fleming, Headteacher at Bluecoat C of E Primary School said, “it is with great sadness that, due to changes to the tender imposed by the Local Authority, we have had to relinquish responsibility for the delivery of Children’s Centre services in Great Torrington.  We will, however, continue to work very closely with Action for Children to support the delivery of high quality services to our children and families.  We are delighted to be welcoming two year olds to the school from September and hope that the provision offered in ‘The Nest’ will run alongside Children’s Centre services to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children of Great Torrington”.

Torrington Children’s Centre is still very much open for business and a full overview of the services is available on the Action for Children website.

Sessions for Parents, Carers and their Children

We are delighted to be able to offer Play and Learn sessions for parents and carers, along with their pre-school children.  In addition, we are offering a Maths Cafe designed to help parents and carers support their child with their maths learning at home.  We will shortly be introducing a Reading Cafe along similar lines.  Find out more information by clicking on the links below:
