May Fair is the Talk of the Town!

Copy of IMG_6352_SnapseedWe have approached that time of year again when May Fair becomes the talk of the town….who will be May Queen? Who will be Crowner?

May Fair is a much loved tradition in Great Torrington and it is an occasion held very close to people’s hearts.  Anyone who has been involved in years gone by generally remember the experience with great fondness. The Town Square explodes with singing and dancing and the community spirit is tangible.

There is always a real buzz around the school at voting time for the May Queen with an air of anticipation.  Year 6 girls who would like to be May Queen, put themselves forward for voting.  The girls line up and key stage two cast their initial vote to create a shortlist.  This year there were 5 girls shortlisted and those 5 visited the key stage two classes and a further vote followed.

The Mayor and Mayoress came in today (Thursday 12th February) to count the final votes for the May Queen, and to draw the names of the 8 Attendants and 2 Heralds.  The runner up from the May Queen vote is given the honour of Crowner.
