Parent Open Afternoon – Empowerment Day Follow Up

March 19, 2018 @ 14:30 – 15:30

Dear Parents and Carers

As you know, at Bluecoat C of E Primary School we take a very proactive approach to pupil safety and wellbeing and an integral part of this is to empower children to speak up for themselves, respect one another and be kind to each other. A particular avenue for this is The Fruit of the Spirit’ which illustrates nine attributes which are woven into the ethos and culture of the school; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

We recognise that unkindness and bullying can sadly take place in all walks of life which is why we take a very proactive approach to teaching anti-bullying strategies across the school including the anti-bullying spirals and positive touch peer massage. We ensure that children understand what it means to be a ‘befriender’ and are explicit about not being a ‘bystander’ in these situations.

Empowerment Day, which took place on 9th March, is an opportunity to celebrate wholeheartedly with children their uniqueness, giving recognition to their own value. We believe it is also important for parents to feel empowered and have confidence that that their children are safe. Parents and carers are always welcome to come into school to talk through any concerns they have, and are actively encouraged to do so.

In addition, as a follow up from the Empowerment Day, we would like to invite parents and carers in for a chance to review the day and look at ideas or suggestions to develop this area further for our children. We will also be offering advice on internet safety, including parental controls, and there will be an opportunity to talk in confidence to a member of staff to address any issues or concerns. This will take place on Monday 19th March in The Coffee Pod, from 2:30pm onwards. Refreshments will be available and we hope that you can come along to join us.
