Every year, GTS launch the Great Torrington Learning Community Year 6 PE Superstars Academy. Children in year 6 from across schools in the area are identified as being more able in PE and have the opportunity to try out for the academy. Autumn Multi-Skills

During the last week of this October half term, children from Years one and two attended GTS to take part in an Autumn Multi-skills Festival. The Festival was organised by the staff and Year 7 students from GTS and led by Adrian Avery. The children had a great time and thorough enjoyed all the activities that were made available to them.

It’s Coming Home!

Following on from the euphoria of last night’s England win, we are delighted that the Bluecoat Girls team have been victorious at the North Devon School Sport Football competition at Park School in Barnstaple today (Wednesday 4th July). The team came joint 1st with Sticklepath and Ilfracombe.

The chants of ‘…it’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football’s coming home….” rang

Wimbledon Fever Hits Bluecoat!

With Wimbledon upon us and to link with our topic ‘We are the Champions’, year 3 celebrated their tennis skills with parents and carers. We had glorious sunshine and shared a cream tea. The session was enjoyed by all!

A fun-packed week for Year 3

Heatree Residential

In the first half of the summer term, many year 3 children experienced their first school residential. Heading to the beautiful Heatree Activity Centre on Dartmoor, they tried their hands at lots of different things such as abseiling, climbing, archery and team building games. Let’s be active – Tennis at Bluecoats!

For the last two years the Atlantic Racquet Centre’s Tennis Superstars project has delivered free Tennis to over 900 children in local schools and has seen a further 120 of them access tennis at ARC as a result. Following this success, Bluecoat C of E Primary School was offered the chance to be part of the fantastic project this summer.

‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ at the GTS Dance Fest!

On Monday 5th March 2018, children in Years 1-4 had the opportunity to take part in a Dance Festival at Great Torrington School. The children had a fantastic time dancing along to the Streetz style of movement; the atmosphere was electric and everybody got stuck in!

Sitting Volleyball Success!

Earlier this month, Mrs Hannam took the Bluecoat Group to GTS for a sitting volleyball competition. The 8 children split into 2 teams – Team A consisted of Armani Ford, Kai Wheeler, Dylan Webb and TJ Doolan. Team B consisted of Ebony Stagg, Charlie Vaggers, Phoebe Vaggers and Daylun Bock.

Stephen Shield Cross Country Competition 2017

It was a drizzly and dreary day on Wednesday 18th October, but this was not enough to dampen the spirits of over 700 children taking part in the hotly contested Stephen Shield Cross Country Competition at Donnacroft in Torrington. It was a record number of participants and taking part were 6 Bluecoat boys and 6 Bluecoat girls from years 3-6.

At the end of the last half-term children from year’s one and two attended the annual Autumn Multi-Skills Festival at GTS. The Festival was organised by the staff and students from GTS and run by Charlotte Frickleton.

On Wednesday 5th July, pupils in year 5 had a lovely warm, sunny day for their bike ride on the Tarka Trail from Great Torrington to Instow. The Sun Had His Hat on for Sports Day!

On Tuesday 20th June, Bluecoat was a sea of red, blue, yellow and green t-Shirts as pupils prepared to battle it out for their house team to be crowned the champions of the annual Sports Day.  It was a beautifully sunny day and measures had been taken to ensure plenty of shaded areas for children to wait in between events

Record Performance from Bluecoat Girls’ Football Team!

“On the 23rd March, eight girls from the Bluecoat Girls’ Football club played at a Primary School football tournament held at GTS. At the tournament there were eight teams, four of which were from this school. Being the only full girls team there, Bluecoat Girls had to be tough, but they managed to pull it off

Nursery Bike Day

Nursery recently enjoyed a bike day. They made a carwash and garage where they could get their bikes mended. They had to obey the stop and start signs, and stop at the zebra crossing. Rachael was the police officer and caught a few children for speeding. We hope they paid their fines!

High Five to Bluecoat and Monkleigh!

Tuesday 8th November saw netball teams from Bluecoat C of E Primary and Monkleigh Primary come together in a High 5 Netball game. High 5 is the massively popular entry game of netball. It’s a great way for children to get active, enjoy themselves and make new friends.
