German Exchange Visit 2017

We had an amazingly successful Exchange Visit from our Global German Partner in Year 5, Evangelishe Grundschule Babelsberg from June 12th -16th, now in our second year of our partnership. It began on Monday evening when their plane landed at Bristol (30 German pen pals and 5 teaching staff led by Irina). They made really good time arriving by 8:30pm

Around the World with Reception

The Reception children have been ‘travelling’ around the world recently.  Each class has studied different countries and put stamps in their passports to remember where they have been.  Families were invited to come on a ‘tour of the world’ with the children as the tour guides.  As they visited each ‘country’ (table of artefacts and photos) the children shared all

“Gute Reise!” – Diary of the Year 5 Visit to Germany

Year 5 have been studying Germany as a topic because Evanglische Grundschule, Babelsberg, Potsdam, Germany is our Global Partner.  Since September we have been learning about the language, geography, history (especially WW1/2) and the German lifestyle. We have been fortunate to Skype every fortnight with our new pen pals and have also linked this to our Literacy and Maths work

It’s the Year of the Rooster!

On Saturday 28th January it was the Chinese New Year 2017 – the year of the Rooster (the 10th animal in the cycle)! The new year, also known as the Spring Festival, is marked by the lunisolar Chinese calendar, so the date changes from year to year and this year will run until 15th February 2018. An Alternative Christmas

As part of the Christmas Carol Concert, year 5 took a very different look at the Christmas story and the harsh reality facing a family in Tanzania expecting a baby. The events that unfolded in the script illustrated a very different story and told of the struggles to get clean water to bathe the newborn baby. The script can be

On Monday 14th November, Year 3 had a harmony day to link in with their Peace and Harmony topic. The children have been studying global links to culture and traditions and have looked at celebrating the diversity and differences across the globe.

The day was a huge success and all the children learned a lot about the traditions in other

Year 3 Become Rainforest Rangers

Back on 5th May, Year 3 visited the Eden Project and became ‘Rainforest Rangers’. As rangers, the children learnt about how the plants in the Amazon rainforest can provide food, water, shelter and cooking equipment. Some children were asked to dress up in the types of clothing that Rainforest Rangers would wear – they weren’t too keen on the idea

Tristan da Cunha

A big thank you to William’s Dad who came to speak to us about a project he was part of with the Navy in getting much needed supplies to the most remote inhabited island in the world – Tristan da Cunha. He spoke with us about the challenges of getting large equipment there, the great teamwork that was needed, the

Class RH Go ‘Down Under’

Class RH have continued to explore ‘around the world’ and have recently been learning about Australia. They have looked at photos, objects and talked to people who have been there. The children had a real treat when Teaching Assistant Dean brought in his Didgeridoo and played it for them beautifully. It is really tricky to get the sound just right

Nursery Children Explore the World on Their Doorstep…

Nursery children ventured out on visits to the town and learnt about the different jobs being done there as part of their learning about ‘The World on our Doorstep’.

They visited Sandfords Bakery and were able to have a sneaky peek behind the scenes. They saw the mixer and how the bakers rolled out the dough. They also went in

We are proud and excited to be developing global opportunities for our pupils. Each year group (1-6) has their own country of study (South Africa,

Year Six Connect with India

As a school we have managed to secure funding from the British Council to be part of the Connecting Classroom programme. This has been a fantastic opportunity for us as a school to build links with Lourdes Central School in Mangalore, India. India is the chosen link country for year six and they have been working on forging
