Year 5 Job Opportunities – June 2017

Job Role: School Newsroom Editor

Hours: To be arranged but will include some lunch and play times

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Editor of our established school newsroom. The role of the Editor is to oversee all operations of the newsroom and to lead the team of Sub-Editor and Photo-Journalists.  The Editor will work alongside the newsroom lead to design the school newspaper and ensure that stories included reflect the diversity of our school community.  They will decide which news stories will be included, assign members of the team to cover each article and ensure the accuracy of the stories published. 

The successful candidate will require a keen eye for detail, and excellent oral and written communication skills.  A strong interest in current school events is essential and good ICT skills would be an advantage.  The successful candidate will also need to be a confident team player who is resilient, flexible, organised, and able to use their own initiative.

 

Job Role: Newsroom Photo-Journalist

Hours: To be arranged but will include some lunch and play times

We are seeking to appoint four Photo-Journalists for our established school newsroom. The role of the Photo-Journalist is to work within the newsroom team researching and writing a wide variety of articles covering school news and events, local events and entertainment.  Responsibilities will include interviewing people in a range of different circumstances, seeking out and investigating stories, attending a variety of school meetings and events and reacting to breaking news stories.  The Photo-Journalist will also agree the photographic requirements for an article, set up photographic equipment, take and edit pictures. Full training will be provided.

The successful candidates will need to be creative, have a passion for writing and have good attention to detail.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines are essential, along with a keen interest in current school events.  Good ICT and/or photography skills would be an advantage.   The successful candidates will also need to be a confident team player who is resilient, flexible, organised, and able to use their own initiative.
