Remembering WWI in Song

By Isabel Pollit and Lauren Peters, 6D

On Tuesday the 16th of September, Year 6 went up to the senior school to rehearse some World War 1 songs for a performance at the Plough in November.  The songs we rehearsed were Rule Britannia, Keep The Home Fires Burning, the National Anthem, Pack Up Your Troubles, It’s A Long Way To Tipperary and an original song written by Paul Painter who was actually there to sing with us!

We also composed our own songs with students from the senior school. Each group had a picture about the war to inspire us to compose a song about that picture. When we were composing our own songs, we were allowed to use musical instruments from the GTS music room.

Overall, we all had a great day, and we are really looking forward to preparing our performance.  We hope you will come and watch us!
